Whitby

Whitby breaks by coach

The town’s harbour today still shelters a large flotilla of fishing and private leisure vessels from which the town originally grew, and from where its many renowned seafood restaurants still get their catch. People travel from miles around to enjoy Whitby’s famous fish and chips, with a great choice of places to eat in or take away. No traditional seaside resort would be complete without a good old fashioned Amusement Arcade and Whitby has several of these down near its impressive pier by the wide expanse of beautiful sandy beach below the town’s West Cliff.

Explore Whitby’s quirky cobbled streets lined with lots of interesting boutique shops, where you’ll find unique Whitby jet jewellery and other fascinating items. The streets are also home to many traditional hostelries where fishermen would relax and drink after a hard shift at sea. A coach trip to Whitby would not be the same without climbing the 199 steps to Whitby Abbey, counting as you go, and exploring the beautiful ruins which tower over the town. Once you’ve made it, the view across to the famous whale bones of the West Cliff on the opposite side of the harbour is well worth it.
