Roy Orbison aka ‘The Big O’, is ranked as one of the greatest rock ‘n roll musicians of all time with his distinctive trembling voice and trademark Wayfarer glasses.
In a career spanning over 30 years he enjoyed three UK Number Ones with “Only The Lonely”, “It’s Over” and “Oh, Pretty Woman”, 12 Top Ten hits and numerous best-selling albums.
At the height of rock ‘n roll, Orbison stood out from his contemporaries. Whilst Jerry Lee Lewis had a raucous playing style and Elvis rocked his swinging hips, Orbison dared to be different with a stiff stage presence which managed to draw audience into the lyrics of songs about fear, vulnerability and anxiety.
He was truly unique and stole the hearts of fans across the world with his powerful and emotional ballads.
His work saw him win six Grammys in the 80s. He was also inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987, the Songwriters’ Hall of Fame in 1989 and became a star of the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2010.
It’s nearly 30 years since Orbison died of a heart attack but Barry Steele ensures his legacy lives in this moving tribute which uses original film footage to take you through his hits from the 50s right through to the 80s when he teamed up with Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and George Harrison in the Travelling Wilburys.
