Coach holidays to Shrewsbury

Shrewsbury Town
Shrewsbury Bridge at Night

Situated on the banks of the River Severn, the medieval market town of Shrewsbury is a delightful place to visit on a coach break to Shropshire and surrounding area with National Holidays.

The town is one of the UK’s most visited heritage cities, steeped in culture and history, which retains a timeless appeal thanks to its timber framed black and white buildings which line the maze of cobbled alleyways.

Today Shrewsbury enjoys a vibrant atmosphere with a bustling shopping scene, featuring a blend of designer shops and small independent boutiques, and calendar of festivals and events throughout the year.

Shrewsbury, Medieval Market Town

If you have never been to Shrewsbury before, the first time certainly won’t be your last.

Located on the edge of the Welsh border and circled by the Rover Severn, the heritage town has a unique personality, where some of the finest medieval buildings in the UK blend perfectly with a pulsating shopping and café culture.

The town has no fewer than 600 beautifully preserved listed buildings, including a castle, which is now the Regimental Museum, cathedral and magnificent Shrewsbury Abbey which inspired Ellis Peters’ The Cadfael Chronicles.

It’s easy to lose track of time as you meander the higgledy-piggledy alleyways that criss-cross the town, packed with quirky independent boutique shops.

For a gentler pace head down to the riverbank and enjoy a leisurely walk through Quarry Park or hop on a river cruise at Victoria Quay to relax and enjoy a different view of the town.

Shrewsbury’s most famous son is evolutionist Charles Darwin who was born and educated in the town. His connections are celebrated through a statue outside the library, where he went to school, and an abstract sculpture called Quantum Leap in a ‘Geo Garden’ on the banks of the river.

On a coach trip to Shrewsbury you will also see why the town is affectionately called the ‘Town of Flowers’. Everywhere you go you will see an explosion of plants and colourful flowers which add to the character of this stunning town. Indeed it’s fitting that the town plays host to Shrewsbury Flower Show every year and is the oldest of its type in the world.
