Carcassonne is located inbetween two great axis of circulation linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean Sea and the Massif Central to the Pyrenees. Its strategic importance was quickly recognized by the Romans who occupied its hilltop until the demise of their western empire. The ancient walled city of Carcassonne was reputedly the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty. Its historic fortress contains a medieval village with tiny, winding alleys.
Enjoy a visit to Montserrat, nestled between the peaks of the Pyrenees offering magnificent views of one of the most beautiful landscapes of Catalonia, it is home to the famous monastery.
One of the most vibrant cities in Europe – Barcelona. Stroll down La Ramblas, the spectacular thoroughfare filled with bars, market stalls and street performers. The Gothic Quarter is the centre of the old city of Barcelona. Many of the buildings date from medieval times, some from as far back as the Roman settlement of Barcelona. Especially remarkable is the work of architect Gaudi, which can be seen throughout the city. His best-known work is the immense but still unfinished church of the Sagrada Familia, which has been under construction since 1882.
