Porthminster Beach, St Ives, Cornwall
Porthminster is a Blue Flag beach. Impressive views from the beach stretch as far as Godrevy Lighthouse. The clear waters off the beach provide safe bathing, as you can expect a generally calm sea in the warm months. With the benefit of the mildest climate in the UK along with waving palm trees and translucent waters, there is a definite tropical feel to the place.

Explaining the beach’s history, Tony Mason from the St Ives Tourism Association told us “Porthminster beach was ‘discovered’ when the pretty branch line from St Erth opened in May 1877, quickly establishing it as one of the best beaches in the country – if not the world. The fine golden sands and idyllic setting, together with the pristine, extremely safe bathing waters make it particularly suitable for family holidays.”

Agreeing with Tony, Julia Hughes of Visit Cornwall added that “it’s a perfect setting for everyone, from families to those wanting an adrenaline rush on the water. The quality of light here is stunning and has long inspired artists, writers and poets. There’s also a great mix of places to eat and it has a laid-back vibe which combines with coastal chic to offer a setting that rivals far-flung exotic locations from around the world.”
